Ideas for an Australia Themed Party

If there are three things Australians like, I'd put money on them being ouside living, sport, and food & drink. So when the Australian Grand Prix, it's the perfect excuse to invite some mates round for a barbecue, thus combining all three activities in one event!

Australian Party Decorations

  • Decorate yourself and your room with Australian flags and scarves (see links, right).
  • If you're serving food, search for green and yellow table covers, napkins, plates, cups and cutlery on our general General Party Decorations Page
  • For bunting, flags, balloons and more Australian Party Decorations Ideas, visit our Oceania Flags & Decorations Page

As for other party decorations, you're spoiled for choice. Everything from Australian hats with corks to inflatable kangaroos are reasonably affordable and available. For colour schemes, you could go for the red, white and blue of the Australian flag, or the yellow and green of their national football and rugby teams. We have some ideas on our Oceania Flags & Decorations Page.

Food for an Australia Themed Party

Australian cooking is a good reflection of Australia as a whole - it's fun, it's fresh, it's unpretentious. It's full of fresh outdoors ingredients and great natural flavours. And it draws from cultural influences that reflect the origins of many of Australia's inhabitants - Europe and South East Asia. As a result, Aussies were cooking what has become "trendy fusion food" years before it became fashionable in Europe.

Drink for an Australian Party

Australian beer and wine are appreciated and available almost everywhere these days, and are usually the perfect accompaniement to a barbecue.

For beers, it's generally the lager-type, served ice-cold. Fosters is an obvious choice.

DrinkSupermarket.com have an excellent selection of Australian wines which you can order online for your Aussie Grand Prix party.
